At Milan Design Week it could seem but not always about design, of course, it is what brings so many professionals and design lovers to Milan but there are other interesting aspects during this event. You have parties and cocktails you can attend and if you are a food and design lover you have several events that join both.
This year’s edition has a lot to offer allocated in the several Milan Design Week sections, from Zona Tortona to Brera, from Spazio Ventura to Lambrate, to the fashion district – the so-called Quadrilatero – hosting events organized by the various fashion houses. Openings, cocktails and exhibitions feature aplenty in the programme of this 6-day initiative dedicated to home spaces and design. The events started with the opening of Van Cleef & Arpels exposition boutique in via Verri, 10 18.00-22.00 but there are plenty of other events you can go to.
Barnaba will introduce during the iSaloni event some iconic pieces of furniture from the Fornasetti imagination and adds to these, as is customary for this period of the year, with one of his reinventions, a contemporary vision that embellishes Fornasetti’s vast and eclectic world. During the event the new oval table “Peccato originale” and the new side cabinet “Buffet Frutto del peccato” will be presented, both Barnaba Fornasetti’s re-invention that are the result of a search for an increasingly distant paradise.

BE OPEN’S journey continues in Milan at Fuorisalone 2013, hosts a unique event focusing on the sense of taste, with an innovative food experience at Moroso’s showroom in via Pontaccio. Using Kvadrat’s textiles and Moroso’s furniture, celebrated designer Patricia Urquiola creates a “stage” for Italian Massimiliano Alajmo, the world’s youngest chef to be awarded 3 Michelin Stars and the Danish duo I’m a Kombo, in which they create sensory themed food.

At Euroluce 2013 Foscarini will present a preview of the new features of its collection on a stand designed by Ferruccio Laviani. A 200 m2 area will be dedicated to the Successful Living from Diesel collection, presented in a space designed by the Diesel Creative Team.
If you are a food and design lover you can go to: Riso di Pasta, a new food product that, thanks to the use of 100% Made in Italy parboiled rice and a new manufacturing process combines the nutritional properties of rice in the shape of pasta. A gluten-free primo that combines tradition and innovation and is a good alternative to traditional pasta. All the events are spread out during the week, with cooking shows at the Salone del Mobile Fair or in the centre of Milan. Kids are not left out: on April 14th at appartamento Lago, Via Brera 30, a special workshop for kids (4-11 year old).
You can also visit Plenty of Empty, Via Ampola 18, between Ripamonti and Corso Lodi, where food and design reunite at Mari&có. The food place of Marinella Rossi and designer Nicola Quadri meet through this project, where vintage design and innovative cuisine (by chefs Filippo Mariani e Massimo Grasselli) are both at ease.
Another event you can go to is ABCD – ArteBuonaCucinaDesign. It is a temporary project that joins design to authorial cuisine through cooking demonstrations by the best chefs in Italy. Held in the luxury location of the Magna Pars Event Space of Via Tortona 15. ABCD (an acronym of Art, Good Cuisine, Design) is an initiative that celebrates the internationally renowned ‘Made in Italy’ concept. The highlight event by private invitation will be the cooking demonstration by Carlo Cracco, Michelin starred chef, with the designer Karim Rashid who designed and will present the exclusive line “Hook” of the cooking implements line TVS. Many are the renowned design and food industries involved in the project, from wines La Perla del Garda to Sartoria del Gusto, from pasta Gerardo di Nola to professionals kitchen dress codes tailor Bragard.
