Brera Design District has presented some novelties for this year’s edition of Milan Design Week. This year Brera will be having a theme that will serve as a hymn to sustainability under the motto “Design Your Life“.
It just so happens that it’s the 10th anniversary of the district’s activities during Milan Design Week. One of the main highlights of the initiatives to come is the fact that the events in Brera will start one day earlier than the rest of the activities in the city. Some of the presentations will also be anticipated at the end of the previous week, with the purpose of coinciding with MiArt Milano.
This year’s theme, “Design Your Life“, was chosen to serve as “an invitation to the designers to work more on the sustainable impact of their work”, in the words of the main organizers of the event. The approach this year towards Milan Design Week takes a step back from the idea of viewing design as a concept in other fields opting for it as filter sustainability as well as a political and social act.
10 ambassadors have been chosen to represent the district during Milan Design Week, all of whom are linked with some relevant keywords related to the event’s main theme. One of them is Mario Cucinella with the main theme and keyword Design your Future, inviting all of the participants to rethink a new relationship with nature. There’s also, Aldo Cibic with the keyword Design your Memories, as well as the brothers Daniel and Markus Freitag, who have been great pioneers of circular design. It’s said the design duo will present a project based on the keyword Design your Ideas, however, further details have yet to be released.
Last year’s edition of Brera Design District had significative positive results with almost 400 exhibitors and more than 200 events during Milan Design Week 2018. Brera Design District for 2020 wants to reconfirm its role as a design player, promising an even richer program of events, special projects, and cultural initiatives.
