BD Barcelona – 50 years of Design

Piazza Belgioioso 2

Legend has it that BD Barcelona was founded by a group of architects who were hanging out late one night in 1972 at Barcelona’s famed club Boccaccio when they decided to launch a design company with the help of their artist and designer buddies. Boccaccio Design (later called BD Barcelona), which produced work by relatively unknown artists like Ettore Sottsass and Vittorio Gregotti as well as reprints of surrealist painters like Antoni Gaud and Salvador Dal, became a creative sensation. Some of the most renowned creatives in the world have appeared in its wide catalog, from historical greats like lvaro Siza Vieira and Alessandro Mendini to more modern designers like Konstantin Grcic, Doshi Levien, and Jaime Hayon.

Continuing its dialogue with the city of Milan, Giorgio Armani opens the doors of Palazzo Orsini, the company’s historic headquarters, to the public for the first time at the Salone del Mobile to present the new Armani/Casa collection. On this occasion, guests will have the opportunity to discover, in the secret garden, the new outdoor collection and, continuing along the path inside the historic building, some precious furniture displayed in the prestigious frescoed rooms on the first floor. The atelier of the Giorgio Armani Privé haute couture collection thus gives way, in part, to the Armani/Casa design, in the sign of the continuity of a style that is as consistent in fashion as in furnishings, because the attention to materials, the artisan care in making them, the sense of a light, refined and therefore recognizable preciousness is identical.
