ARCO madrid 2023 is Spain’s International Contemporary Art Fair which, since its creation, has been one of the main platforms for the contemporary art market.
The 42nd edition of ARCO Madrid 2023, the show organized by IFEMA MADRID, came to an end on 26/February with a very good financial position and a fast tempo of business. The finest potential draw to entice reputable national and worldwide collectors was the relevance of the galleries and art programs comprising the contents of this edition.
The upbeat atmosphere during this edition made the return of market confidence quite evident, translating into an excellent sales dynamic, with purchases by collectors and purchasers, as well as additions to various public institutions’ collections and museums. Almost 450 international collectors, 211 galleries from 36 countries, 200 business visitors from 40 countries, and more attended the International Contemporary Art Fair this year.
After the first few days, which were reserved only for professionals, ARCO madrid recorded a significant number of institutional and corporate acquisitions, including those of Fundación ARCO, Museo Reina Sofa, Comunidad de Madrid, Ayuntamiento de Madrid, and Fundación Aldo Rubino for the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires MACBA.
At ARCOmadrid 2023, the Portuguese gallery Monitor, which featured pieces by Lucia Cant and Elisa Montessori, won the Lexus Award for the Best Stand and Art Materials.
With the XVI illySustainArt Prize, given this time to the artist from Jérez, Cristina Mejas, who is exhibited by the galleries Alarcón Criado and Rodrguez Gallery, illycaffè once again encouraged young developing artists present at ARCOmadrid.
The Evru/Zush – Galera Senda and Peter Weibel-Beckers + Kornfeld received the ARCO-BEEP Prize for Electronic Art on its XVI edition, and their works will be included in the.NewArt collection;, formerly known as the Beep Collection. The Six Senses Ibiza Sustainable Art Award winner and new member of ARCOmadrid this year is the Brazilian artist Zé Carlos Garca from the Pasto gallery in Buenos Aires.
