They say first impressions matters, especially in Milan. The new book Ingressi di Milano (Entryways of Milan) by Karl Kolbitz and Taschen is a documentation of how Milanese entryways stand as fine examples of midcentury modernism, also using colour, form and design to generate emotional responses and a dramatic sense of arrival. These vibrant Milanese entryways, until now hidden away behind often restrained façades, are revealed as dazzling examples of Italian modernism, mediating public and private space with vivid configurations of color and form, from floors of juxtaposed stones to murals of minimalist geometry.
