Italian Architects are definitely a good example of the quality and innovation that can be found within this area, and it’s no wonder, seeing as this job isn’t very far from the design area. Today Milan Design Agenda has decided to introduce you to six good examples of Bespoke Italian Architects who definitely left a mark with their work.
Known as the Mostro Sacro (sacred monster) of Italian Architecture, Andrea Branzi is known for having many of his works exposed in the main capitals of the world. Born in Florence in 1938, he graduated in architecture in 1966 moving to Milan during the 70s. He’s known for creations such as Superonda, a sofa he designed in 1966 for Poltronova, and also No Stop City (1969 – 1972).
Piano was born in Genoa, Italy into a family of builders. His notable buildings include the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (with Richard Rogers, 1977), The Shard in London (2012), and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City (2015) and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens (2016). He won the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1998.
One of the most known projects for 2020 by Renzo is the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. It will officially open its doors on 14 December 2020 in Los Angeles. Featuring a unique aesthetic that highlights a round dome, the museum will be regarded as the “world’s premier film institution”.
Often known for his label as “Best Architect in Milan”, this architect’s company, Cino Zucchi Architecture studio, is constantly searching for some new spatial solutions for contemporary life within the delicate and rapidly changing context of the European landscape. Born in Milano in 1955, Cino has the Pasila Central Tower area, Helsinki, Finland (2009) as one of his greatest achievements in architecture. The Milanese architect has designed and realized many commercials, public, industrial and residential buildings, public spaces, renewal plans and master plans for agricultural, industrial and historical areas.
Mario Bellini is an Italian architect who graduated from the Milan Polytechnic – Faculty of Architecture in 1959 and began working as an architect solo during the early 1960s. 25 of Mario Bellini’s works are in the permanent design collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), which dedicated to him a personal retrospective in 1987. He is also recognized internationally for projects such as the expansion of the Milan Trade Fair; the new Cultural Centre for the City of Turin; the Villa Erba Exhibition and Congress Centre in Cernobbio on Lake Como; the Tokyo Design Centre in Japan; the Natuzzi Headquarters in the U.S.
Park Associati is an architectural design studio created in 2000 by Filippo Pagliani and Michele Rossi. The projects on an urban and architectonic scale are a good example of the group’s capacity to research solutions that can combine local identity and technological innovation. The projects of Park Associati have been showed in several exhibitions and published in Italian and international architecture magazines.
Last but not least we have Richard Rogers. Named The Lord Rogers of Riverside in 1996, he became best known for buildings such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the headquarters for Lloyd’s of London, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Millennium Dome in London.
