World’s most important furniture design event in Milan is coming! From 12 to 17 April, Salone del Mobile 2016 will marks 55th edition. Milan Design Agenda gives you all information you need to enjoy this event. Eurocucina, Salone del Mobile, Salone del Bagno…The week-long program brings forth special events, exhibitions and product presentations, where everyone who’s anyone on the international furniture and manufacturing scene comes together to observe and get-in-tune with the latest industry developments.
Salone del Mobile 2016 is the place where new furniture products are launched annually, and is the must-see sectoral appointment every year, continuously reaffirming Milan’s role as the capital of design.
As it is an even calendar year, the Salone del Mobile 2016 presents the biennial Eurocucina exhibition, its collateral event FTK (technology for the kitchen); alongside the international Salone del Bagno. Spread out over 23,000 square metres, Eurocucina brings forth 120 international brands who will highlight their quality kitchen products, responding to the steady rise in demand for functionality from increasingly savvy consumers. The accompanying international bathroom exhibition, with 200 exhibitors spread over 19,000 square meters, is set to showcase innovative solutions for personalizing the domestic space with a particular focus on wellness and self-care.
In its 19th edition, the annual salonesatellite program of the Salone del Mobile 2016 again highlights the new generation of designers and architects (under the age of 35). Acting as a platform for these young creatives to share their work to the public and potential manufacturers, this edition is ‘new materials, new design’ and will underline the mediums and production techniques they employ in their contemporary practice. designers will present one or two projects that dovetail with product categories at the biennial eurocucina and international bathroom exhibition.
At the fairgrounds, paying homage to what came before ‘actual’ design, is ‘before design: classic’ — an exhibition which reflects on the definitive soul of contemporary living, accompanied by a short film the multi-award winning filmmaker matteo garrone. The display and film collectively tell the story of the classic, understood as a cross-cutting category of living, traversing the various eras, while preserving its own constant actuality. ‘before design: classic’ is associated to the art, design, cinema and creativity, related to the realization of the classic, offering a look at how it breaks conventions through time and space; standing as an absolute spur for building new lifestyles, a new world, a new future.
Salone del mobile 2016 hosts ‘ROOMS. novel living concepts’ — an exhibition curated by beppe finessi, at the palazzo dell’arte in Milan from april 2nd to september 12th, 2016. Over the last 50 years, there has been little reflection on the profession of interior architecture. Expositions such as ‘colours and shapes in today’s home’ at villa olmo, como in 1957; ‘la casa abitata’ at palazzo strozzi, florence, 1965; ‘the domestic project’ at the triennale di milan, 1986; as well as the seminal groundbreaking MoMA exhibition ‘italy. the new domestic landscape’, new york, 1972, expressed that there was no lack of ‘interior environment’ projects.
‘ROOMS. novel living concepts’ is geared at underlining a particular remit of interior architecture and providing a vision of home living projected towards the future. Twenty years since the last triennale, and 30 years since the last great exhibition on interiors.
The exhibition invites 11 best interior designers and architects— Alessandro Mendini, Andrea Anastasio, Carlo Ratti, Duilio Forte, Elisabetta Terragni, Fabio Novembre, Francesco Librizzi, Lazzarini e Pickering, Manolo de Giorgi, Marta Laudani and Marco Romanelli, and Umberto Riva — to envision domestic spaces that illustrate their own philosophies and concepts of living.
